SJEC Gavel Club


SJEC Gavel Club has been granted the status of Gavel Club by the Toastmasters International on 1st Jan, 2010. Toastmasters International is a non-profit educational organization that teaches public speaking and leadership skills through a worldwide network of meeting locations. Its headquarters is located in Rancho Santa Margarita, California, the organization has more than 250,000 members in more than 12,500 clubs in 106 countries. Since 1924, Toastmasters International has helped people of all backgrounds become more confident in front of an audience. Most Toastmasters meetings are comprised of approximately 20 people who meet weekly for an hour or two. Participants practice and learn skills by filling a meeting role, ranging from giving a prepared speech or an impromptu one to serving as timer, evaluator or grammarian.

The toastmasters meeting are conducted every Thursday from 3pm to 5pm at SJEC. Ms Lorraine Joan Rosario is the faculty co-ordinator for this club.

Irshad and Khaleel Young Turks at Magnum 2010

The Department of Business Administration congratulates Mohammed Irshad and Ibrahim Khaleel, 2nd Semester MBA students, for having won the First Place in the event Young Turks (Venture Capital) and the MBA team consisting of Anupama Rao M., Shilpa Suprabha Ahshirwad, Lynn Geraldine Bucher, Vinita Rochelle Frank, Andria Deepshika M. D., Melissa Noeline Albuquerque, Daryl Tauro and Arrel Vijay Moras for participating in the State Level Commerce & Management Fest 'Magnum - 2010' organised by the Department of Commerce, Mangalore University, Mangalagangotri on 18th & 19th February, 2010.

MOU signed to improve Industry - Institute interaction

To improve the interactions between the industry and academia a MOU was signed between Kanara Small Industries Association with St Joseph Engineering College and five other colleges, namely AJIM, Canara, Besant, Govinda Dasa and St Mary's on 17th February, 2010 at 4:00 pm at A. J. Institue of Management, Mangalore. 
The MOU was signed by Fr Valerian D'Souza, Director, SJEC along with other heads of institution and Mr K. Jairaj Pai, President, Kanara Small Industries Association, Industrial Area, Baikampady, Mangalore. 
Students would get practical experience in the enterprises by industrial visits, projects, working part time in the organisation even to the extent of setting up their own units after their professional course.

Dr K. Devaraj, Principal of SDM College of Business Management, Mangalore was the chief guest and Mr. K.K. Nayak, Administrative Officer, Laxmi Memorial Education Trust presided over the function. Dr Prakash Pinto, Dean MBA, SJEC., Mr Chaco P. J, Lecturer, SJEC., Mr Suraj Francis Noronha, Lecturer, SJEC., Industry delegates, faculty of other institution and students of AJIM were also present for the occasion.
