Max Rasquina interacts with the budding Toastmasters

Mr Max Rasquinha,  Distinguished Toast Master interacted with the budding gaveliers of SJEC-MBA on 21st December, 2009 from 3:00pm to 5:00pm. He spoke about the importance of toastmasters and how it has helped him to build his personality. He also interacted with the faculty members of SJEC-MBA.


Rev. Fr Valerian D'Souza, Director, SJEC and Dr. Prakash Pinto, Dean - MBA, SJEC were present for the programme. There was presentation of speeches prepared by the students and the chartered Gavel Club will be starting from 1st January, 2010.




Mr Max Rasquinha has served as a toastmaster for over 30 years. Ever since Max Rasquinha stepped down from his position as a District Governor of Houston, Texas, he has actively established Toastmasters leadership programs in several prisons of Texas where hundreds of men and women are now being benefited in developing leadership qualities so that they are fully reconciled from their past and get fully prepared for a “re-entry” program in the real world.

Dubai crisis is blown out of proportion by the western media

As part of the Special Lecture Series of the Department of Business Administration, St Joseph Engineering College, Mangalore, India, Prof B. V. Raghunandan delivered a lecture on "Dubai World led Recession and its Implications on Indian Economy" on 8th December, 2009 at 2:00pm at the MBA Conference Hall, SJEC.

Prof. Raghunandan spoke on the ambitious development projects of  Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum محمد بن راشد آل مكتوم;, Sheik of Dubai and its implications. The 3 hours session included a video presentation on "Palm Island" and other mega constructions on the sea. This was followed with the discussion on the various factors that could have lead to the present crisis of Dubai Economy.



Prof. Raghunandan was of the view that the magnitude of the current crisis is blown out of proportion by the western media. He concluded the session by emphasising that the current Dubai crisis will not have a great impact on the Indian economy.

Dr Prakash Pinto, Dean, Department of Business Administration, SJEC welcomed the resource person. The vote of thanks was delivered by Mr Ivon Mendonca, 1st Semester MBA. The faculty of the Department of Business Administration and the students of the 1st Semester MBA attended the session.

The 4th Graduation Day

The graduation day of the First Batch (2007-09) of MBA students of St Joseph Engineering College was held on 25th November, 2009. The function was presided over by Most Rev. Dr Aloysius Paul D'Souza, Bishop of Mangalore. Dr Derick Lobo, Former Regional Advisor for the World Health Organisation was the chief guest. Fr Valerian D'Souza - Director of SJEC, Fr Henry Mascarenhas - Asst Director of SJEC, Dr Joseph Gonsalves - Principal of SJEC, Deans & HOD's of various departments were present on the dais. Prof.Jayakara Hegde, Dean Academics administered the oath.






Dr Prakash Pinto, Dean MBA, announced the names of the MBA graduates, who recieved their certificates from the chief guest.Dr Joseph Gonsalves, Principal SJEC welcomed the gathering & Dr Anjali Ganesh, Associate Proffesor, Department of Business Administration & Convener of the Graduation Day Programme proposed the vote of thanks. Ms Lavina Maria Sequeira and Mr Suraj Francis Noronha compeered the program.

 

 

Mr Adolf D'Souza, Student of the First batch of the MBA students of SJEC, replied on behalf of the First batch of MBA students. Ms Nagashree was felicitated with Gold Medal for being the top scorer in the batch. Parents of the students were also present on the occasion.


The program concluded with lunch for all the graduates, guests and staff.

Manthan”- Demag ko hila de a stress interview




The HR team of the management association, St Joseph Engineering College, conducted the stress interview “Manthan”- Demag ko hila de on the 20th of November 2009 for the 1st and the 2nd year MBA. Manthan consisted of 2 rounds. First the preliminary (aptitude round). Altogether 46 participants took part in the preliminary round. Out of 46 candidates, 10 candidates were selected from the 1st and 2nd year for the Manthan, stress interview round. These selected candidates were interviewed by 2 judges for 4 minutes. The judges were Mr Grishin D souza, and Dr Vincent crasta.

Workshop on Corporate Governance for SJEC MBA students

The Department of Business Administration,St Joseph Engineering College organized a workshop on corporate governance for the benefit of MBA students on Thursday, 19th November 2009 in the college conference hall. Chartered Accountant Mrs. Jennifer Arun Mendes of Mendes & Co, Mangalore was the resource person for the conference.


Mrs. Jennifer highlighted the importance of corporate governance in the light of corporate scandals and frauds and stated that good corporate governance will protect the interests of the shareholders. It is the responsibility of every budding manager to have adequate knowledge of the corporate governance practices of the companies, she added demonstrating the live cases of the Indian companies.

"Chaap Ad" - A print ad competition held at SJEC

As part of the Management Association Activities the marketing students of 2nd year MBA organised a print ad competition "Chaap Ad" on the 13th November, 2009. There were 9 team from the first year as well as the second year MBA. Students came up with various ideas and a lot of creativity was displayed on the stage. Dr Anjali Ganesh, Associate Proffessor and Ms Lavina Maria Sequeira, Senior Lecturer were the judges for the event.

SJEC MBA Students Runners Up at ‘Shriyans -2009’

The students of the Department of Business Administration, St. Joseph Engineering College, Vamanjoor bagged the Overall runners up trophy in the National Level Management Fest ‘Shriyans-09’ held at Srinivas Institute of Technology, Valachil on 20th and 21st October 2009.

Mr Norman D’Souza of First Semester MBA has won the prestigious Best Manager award at the same Management Fest.

Freshers Day 09



The Students of 3rd semester MBA organised Freshers Day program on 15th October, 2009. The formal function was presided by Rev. Fr Henry Mascarenhas, Asst Director, SJEC, Dr Joseph Gonsalvis, Principal, SJEC was the chief guest of the function. Dr Praksh Pinto, Dean MBA, SJEC and Prof. Godfrey Pinto, Personal Manager, SJEC also graced the occasion. The seniors and the juniors exhibited their talents through cultural program. Various games were conducted by the seniors for the faculty and the students. Refreshments were also served.

Winners of Rendition 09

The prizes won at Rendition-09 are for papers presented under Human Resource area, first prize - Mohanesh Chengappa, NITK, Surathkal for the paper titled ‘Employee Training and Development Needs for Proposed Mangalore Petroleum SEZ’ and second prize - Reema S Bangera, A J Institute of Management for the paper titled ‘Competency Mapping'.
Under Marketing area, first prize - Rachana Poovamma, Aloysius Institute of Management and Information Technology for the paper titled ‘Issues and Challenges in Rural Marketing’ and second prize – Priya Jyothi Sequeira, St Joseph Engineering College for the paper titled ‘Rural Marketing’.
Under Finance area first prize - Vijay Kumar T Karne, Aloysius Institute of Management and Information Technology for the paper titled ‘Why do Mergers and Acquisition quite often fail?’ and second prize - Smitha Shenoy P, HR Institue of Higher Education, Hassan for the paper titled ‘E-Banking’.

At Rendition – 09, twenty papers were presented in the three areas of Human Resource, Marketing and Finance.

The Valedictory Function was held on 6th October, 2009 at 4.00 pm in the SJEC Bethania Hall, St. Joseph Engineering College. Ms. Marjorie Aranha Texeria, Chief Guest, Rev. Fr. Valerian D’Souza, President, Dr. Joseph Gonsalvis, Guest of Honour, Dr. Prakash Pinto, Dean-MBA, Prof. Edmond Frank, Dean-PGDBM of St. Aloysius College, Ms Smita Jesudasan, Faculty Co-ordinator and Mr. Nelson Castelino were the dignitaries present.

Ms. Marjorie Aranha Texeria in her Valedictory Address stressed on the importance of values of integrity and honesty in one’s life. She cited examples where a single individual can make a difference to the society.

Rendition 09 - Inaugurated

Genesis, The Forum of MBA Students of St. Joseph Engineering College, inaugurated its First State Level Paper Presentation Contest titled 'Rendition 09' on 6th October, 2009 at Bethania Hall, SJEC, Vamanjoor, Mangalore.

Mr. Jacob Crasta, President, Federation of Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry was the Chief Guest. Rev. Fr. Valerian D'Souza, Director, SJEC was the Guest of Honour. Dr. Joseph Gonsalvis, Prinicpal, SJEC was the President. Prof. A Jayakar Hegde, Dean-Academics, Prof. Eric Patrao, Dean-Planning and Development, Dr. Prakash Pinto, Dean-MBA, Rev. Fr. Anthony Serrao, Parish Priest of St. Lawrence Church, Bondel, Ms. Smita Jesudasan, Faculty Co-ordinator of Genesis, Mr. Nelson Castelino and Ms. Priya Sequeira, Student Co-ordinators were the dignitaries present.

Ms. Priya Sequeira, Student Co-ordiantor welcomed the august gathering. The Chief Guest, Mr. Jacob Crasta in his Inaugural Address stated that the MBA students should imbibe entrepreneurial qualities and become future entrepreneurs rather than budding managers. He was an exemplar and thus convinced and motivated the students to grasp the opportunities to climb the ladder of success with dedication and hardwork. He inspired the students to shun away the mentality of a crab, behaviour of a frog and to join hands together to build the nation.

Dr. Joseph Gonsalvis, Principal, SJEC in his Presidential Address remarked that the students should strive to achieve an equilibrium between academics and extra curricular activites. He reinforced the notion that "To be a good manager, one should be able to manager his or her own personal life well".
