The Department of Business Administration of St Joseph Engineering College organised an Industrial Visit to Coimbatore for the Second year MBA students from 28th to 30th October, 2010. The Brief Report of the Visit and the photographs are given below:

Today everyone is aiming at bridging the gap in thought process and out beat the theoretical knowledge through the essence of practicality. Keeping the concept of corporate exposure in mind, the students of IInd year MBA students approached the Department of Business Administration, with the suggestion of an Industrial Visit to Coimbatore. This request was accepted by the Dean as well as the Management and the students were asked to go ahead with our planning.

A committee was formed to co-ordinate the activities of the industrial visit with Mr. Peter Brian Benjamin and Mr. Chaco P.J as staff coordinators and the student co-ordinators were Kailas S Bhat, Karthik Bhandary, Melvin Paul D’Souza, Nithin Raj, Shivaraj Shetty, Lekha Saraswathi and Sharlet D’Mello. While the staff co-ordinators took charge of arranging for the various companies that can be visited in Coimbatore and the other facilities (boarding and lodging and the travelling), the students committee arranged for train tickets at a concession.

The group’s strong vision has given it the right direction and ever increasing urge to grow. But the visit couldn’t take place in the morning because of the appointment that was rescheduled for the afternoon and hence making the best use of the limited time available at hand, it was decided to tour the neighboring areas of the place where the studens were residing and after lunch they all set towards the software company that was scheduled.

Ideal Methods is a leading web application development company based in Coimbatore, India delivering a comprehensive range of services from custom web application development and domain registrar infrastructure setup to web and logo design, all at very affordable prices.

Ideal Methods creates efficient web applications by choosing the right technologies with the right visual appeal.

And then moved on to the last company of the day as well as of the trip. It is considered as one of the best company in Asia.

SHANTHI GEARS (P) LIMITED:
The company was started in 1969 as ‘Shanthi Engineering and Trading Co.’ This company started manufacturing small gears by way of simple manufacturing process like milling. In 1972, it was converted to Shanthi Gear Products (P) Limited.
The guiding principle since then has been always “quality gears”. Slowly but steadily the business expanded. So also the quality, range, customers and services.
Propelled for growth, in 1980, Shanthi Gears decided to go in for the manufacture of Worn Reduction Gear Boxes. Braving competition from leading manufacturers including multi nationals, Shanthi Gears’ Worm Reduction Gear Boxes gained quick market acceptance. Today, it is rated way above the competition.

Simultaneously, production of Helical Gear Boxes also started in single, double, triple and quadruple reductions and in various combinations. Hollow shafts Gear Boxes were also introduced. Solid shafts and Hollow shaft Bevel Helical Reduction Gear Boxes followed suit. In 1986, Shanthi Gears became a joint stock company and it is now being listed in the major Stock Exchanges.

The philosophy of Shanthi Gears has been- the quality of the finished product is always the sum total of the quality of the raw materials and the components put in. Consequently, facilities for manufacturing Patterns, Centrifugal Castings of phosphor bronze rings, Ferrous Castings, Aluminium Castings, Heat Treatment, Forgings, Fabrications and Cutter Manufacturing were also set up, in- house. Today there are 6 manufacturing units located in and around Coimbatore for catering the above needs.

Foolproof “Quality Systems” developed over the years ensures products of superior quality and long lasting performance. With this the students came to the end of the industrial visit and on 30th October, a outing was arranges to the water amusement park “Black Thunder”.

It was a very fun-filled and knowledgeable experience at the 3 day Industrial Visit which was an initiative taken by the II year MBA students. Mr Peter Brian Benjamin, Mr Chaco P.J, Ms Smitha Jesudasan and Ms Lorraine D’souza were the faculty members who accompanied the students to Coimbatore.
