Inaugural of National Conference on ‘Strategising Innovative Business Models’

The National Conference on ‘Strategising Innovative Business Models’ organized by the Department of Business Administration, St Joseph Engineering college was inaugurated on 24 March, 2011 at 10.00 a.m. in the Conference Hall, Mechanical Engineering. Block, SJEC.

Mr Jayanth Nadiger, Trade Commissioner of Belgium for South India and Aryabhata Award Winner, 2009 in his key note address remarked that the foresight of the college in organizing the national conference on the apt theme ‘Strategising Innovative Business Models’ in the era of globalization and economic slowdown was commendable. He added that the companies should build on focus and differentiation to implement the strategies and also that the essence of the strategy should be what not to do. He cited the case study of ING Direct, US who have had a fabulous growth in a short span of their existence. He implied that the companies should make resource demands and their capabilities should be synergized to be innovative at the non-insular market place.

Rev. Fr Joseph Lobo, Director Designate in his Guest of Honour Address commented that the strategy should be a clear vision of the road ahead as to where to go and where not to. He quoted the story of Alice in Wonderland when Alice enquired from the Cheshire cat the direction to proceed and the cat replied that if she does not know where she wanted to go, it would not matter which turn she would take. He gave the acronym of 3G – ‘Google’ where there should be a search of new ideas, ‘Global Positioning System’ where the company should make its presence known on the global map and ‘God’ who will help those who help themselves.

Dr Joseph Gonsalvis, Principal – SJEC, in his Guest of Honour address wished the conference a success and hoped that the delegates would have a fruitful deliberation at the two day conference.

Most Rev. Dr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza, Bishop of Mangalore Diocese and President of SJEC, in his Presidential Remarks stated the role of innovation in the tough economic times. He stressed on changes in the organizations methods with the right value systems also that the innovative processes should not restrict the poor within its boundaries in India.

Dr Prakash Pinto, Dean – MBA and Conference Chair welcomed the august gathering.

Most Rev. Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, Bishop of Mangalore and President – SJEC released the Proceedings of the National Conference.

Dr Anjali Ganesh, Professor and Conference Convenor furnished the preview of the National Conference and proposed the Vote of Thanks.

Ms Lorraine Joan Rosario, Assistant Professor - MBA Faculty compeered the Inaugural Session. Seventy delegates from various B-Schools and Colleges are attending the National Conference.
