Speakers at National Conference

The following are the resource people for the National Conference on Strategising Innovative Business Models on 24th and 25th March, 2011 at SJEC

Mr Jayant Nadiger
Mr Jayant Nadiger is the Trade Commissioner of Belgium for South India and has been awarded Aryabhatta Award for Exemplary Achievements in International Relations in the year 2009. He has 21 Years of Professional experience with a mix of Private and Diplomatic Trade, Economic & commercial field and over 16 years of experience in Trade and Investment into India in particular South India from UK and Belgium. He is also involved in facilitating the Royal/Prime Ministerial & Ministerial delegations to South India. He has been instrumental in effecting meaningful Joint Venture’s, subsidiaries and other sort of business establishments from UK and Belgium in the last 16 years. Instrumental in setting up of over 18 Belgian SME Companies in South India and 9 Indian companies in Belgium. He is instrumental in putting Karnataka on the World Creativity and Innovation map under World Creativity Forum spearheaded by the Flanders Belgium Govt and on the Initiator Think Tank committee of the World Creativity Forum. Initiator team member of Creativity & Innovation Platform of Karnataka (CIPK). He is the Ex Member of the North Karnataka Task Force, appointed by the Government of Karnataka for Improvement of Economic & Industrial development in the region. He has been the Steering Committee member for International Research Group (IRG) & World Council for Total Quality (WCTQ), Member CSR Europe, Brussels. He has widely traveled, Been a speaker and organizer of several international/national seminars/conferences/workshops etc

Dr Francis Cherunilam
Dr Francis Cherunilam, a post-graduate in Economics and Business Administration and a doctorate in the area of International `Business, is a prolific writer and has to his credit about 20 books and over a hundred research papers and articles. Some of his books and papers have been translated into Indian and foreign languages.
He is at present a professor at the School of Management Studies, Cochin University of Science and Technology. Earlier, he was on the faculties of the Department of Postgraduate Studies and Research in Economics and the Department of Management Science, University of Mysore. He also had a short stint at the the Indian Institute of Management, Calicut, as Professor and Chairman, Marketing Area.



Prof. B. V. Raghunandan
Prof. B. V. Raghunandan, Professor at S. V. S. College, Bantwal and visiting professor of the Department of Business Administration, St Joseph Engineering College is a exemplary speaker and a prolific writer in the areas of Accounting, Finance, Environment and Energy. He has authored several books widely referred by the students and the faculty at the graduate and post graduate level. He has given special lectures on Bottom of the pyramid as Marketing Strategy, Dubai World led Recession and its Implications on Indian Economy, US Recession and Its Impact on Indian Economy, and other topics.

Dr T. G. Vijaya
Dr T. G. Vijaya is a Masters in Organizational Behaviour and a Ph.D. in Industrial Psychology from Madras University. She has over 15 years of experience as a teacher, trainer and consultant. She currently works as a Professor at PSG College of Technology. Apart from being associated with large business houses in the area of Human Resource Consulting she is also actively associated with schools as a career consultant. Her expertise lies in assessment of candidates for the purpose of selection and development and implementation of performance appraisal systems for organizations.She has coordinated and served as a facilitator for various management development programmes across functions and levels and currently heads the Centre for Training and Development at PSG IM. A recipient of the young teacher career award for the year 2004 .Dr T. G. Vijaya has served as a guest faculty to universities in USA and Australia and has presented papers at various international conferences.

Dr Yashavantha Dongre
Dr Yashavantha Dongre is the Registrar of Vijayanagara Krishnadevaraya University, Bellary. He has to his credit 2 Books, 20 Articles in International and National Journals, More than 30 articles is Kannada Journals, Magazines and News Papers. He has completed Research Projects on Non- Profit sector funded by Ford Foundation, Youth Integration in Cooperatives funded by the International Cooperative Alliance, Financing of Rural Artisans funded by Syndicate Bank Chair on Rural Banking, Financing of Agriculture by Commercial Banks funded by UGC, Viability and Growth Potential of Student Cooperatives funded by UGC, etc... He is also the Coordinator, Third Sector Research Group, India and the founder of Co-secretary, ICA Consumer sub committee for University/ College Cooperatives in Asia Pacific. He has been the resource person at the Forum for Cooperatives in Educational Institutions, Chennai. he is the member of District Task Force on the TQM in Higher Education, Mysore and Editorial Adviser, “ Abhivruddhi Adhyayana” – A Social Science Journal Published by Kannada University, Hampi Educational Cooperatives in Educational Institution

Mr Sudhir P Ghate
Mr Sudhir P Ghate is the Chairman of Magnum Intergrafiks Private Limited, a small town advertising agency which rides the wave of success to emerge as one among the top 30 advertising agencies of the country in a short span of 15 years. Think big and act big seems to be the mantra that guides Ghate. He is an entrepreneur and organizer par excellence, who believes in leading from the centre rather than from the front. One can but admire his fortitude in establishing his advertising business with Mangalore as the head office only to spread its tentacles in different parts of the country by setting up 14 branches. Ghate was dismissed from college for his proactive role in opposing emergency. He was 1st degree student in Canara College, where his mother Sharada Ghate was the faculty member. Sudhir was the student leader in charge of young Satyagrahis who was entrusted with the mission of motivating the student community. After completing graduation, Sudhir joined Chartered Accountant Ganesh Shenoy in Mangalore. When Ganesh left for Dubai in 1989, Ghate followed him only to return as he could not live in a place with restricted freedom. 1989 also proved to be a turning point of his career as he went to America and identified four areas with potential for business in the service sector namely credit card services, general insurance, T V Channels and Advertising. He chose advertising for its low investment and hit the bull’s eye.

Fr Oswald A. J. Mascarenhas SJ
Fr Oswald A. J. Mascarenhas SJ, was born in Mumbai, India, and studied at St Aloysius College Middle School, High School and College for twelve years before he joined the Karnataka Jesuit Province in 1955. During his priestly formation, he obtained Licentiate in Philosophy (LPh) from Sacred Heart College, Shembaganur, Tamilnadu, Licentiate in Sacred Theology (LST) from De Nobili College, Poona, and Masters in Philosophy from Dharwar University, South India. Ordained in 1966, he taught philosophy and sacred theology at the St. Joseph’s Inter-diocesan Seminary in Mangalore during 1967-1970, after which he was sent to the United States to pursue studies in Business Economics.




Mr Kumble Narasimha Prabhu
Mr Kumble Narasimha Prabhu is the CEO and Managing Director of Manipal–Ace Event Management Co.(P) Ltd., Mangalore. a multi talented and live wire personality of Mangalore. A Mechanical Engineer from MIT Manipal, Kumble Narasimha Prabhu is now a successful businessman with diversified interests like solar equipment and power generation products. Kumble is also a certified financial consultant with a credible corporate and retail clientele. Kumble is born with a host of natural talent which includes but not limited to acting, singing, dancing, mimicry and shayari. He has hosted innumerable stage shows and compered several high profile programs. On the stage, Kumble is known for his spontaneity and ability to fluently adapt to a suddenly changed situation. Mr Prabhu has made an indelible mark in organizations which he has headed like Mangalore Jaycees, Lions Club Mangalore, etc.. He is also currently the immediate past president of the Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Having been an integral part of various events in Mangalore over the past thirty years, it was only but natural for Kumble to foray into event management, which for him is an art, a passion and today his prime area of business.

Mr Giridhar Prabhu

Giridhar Prabhu is 44 year old businessman from Mangalore. He is the Owner of Achal Industries and also Director of Achal Cashews Private Limited. Achal Industries is a Family business since 1977 and is considered a Small Scale Industry (SSI) since 1981. Achal Industries has one of the most modern manufacturing cashew facilities in the country and has qualified for being one of the first units recognized for In-process Quality Control by the Export Inspection Agency of India. It is also manufacturing Cashew nut Shell Liquid. G. GIRIDHAR PRABHU is now the Member of the Steering Committee on Cashew under the Chairmanship of Secretary ( Agriculture & Co-operation) , Government of India, Ministry of Agriculture, New Delhi and President , Indian Liberal Group, Karnataka . He was the Vice Chairman of Cashew Export Promotion Council of India (CEPCI) & Committee of Administration of the CEPC of India since 1987 and has participated in Trade delegations. He was a member of the Indian Cashewnut Development Council representing the industry and has taken keen interest in the Cashewnut Development program of the country. He is also deeply interested in technical matters related to packaging, control of pesticides as well as promotion. An active member in various Trade Bodies, he is past President of the Mangalore Cashew Manufacturers’ Association, Mangalore. He was the Hon. Secretary of the Canara Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Mangalore for 4 years and Treasurer for 2 years and editor of the Journal for a number of years. He is also a Visiting Faculty at T.A. Pai Management Institute and Guest Lecturer at other Colleges and University. He is the Convener of Karavali Business Forum.
